Crush Visit Excites Youth at Camp Phoenix
For the 2010 Camp Phoenix summer program, campers gathered in Rosholt, Wis. for the week-long annual event geared toward kids diagnosed with Epilepsy. This year, the camp welcomed one Eau Claire Crush player and his son to share their own special story.
Crush lineman Branden Schmude and his son Alex talked to the 27 campers ages eight to 17 years about Alex’s own battle with Epilepsy. Lou Kelsey, Director of Client Services and Community Resources at the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin, said that the campers really enjoyed having the Schmudes at Camp Phoenix for an afternoon.
“It was awesome,” Kelsey wrote in an e-mail. “They were celebrities!”
During the time together, Schmude talked about his experiences as a father to a child with Epilepsy as well as the importance of making aspirations a reality.
“He talked about dreams and trying to do whatever you have for goals in your life no matter what,” Kelsey said. “He did a great job!”
